Frequently Asked Questions Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Vodder Method)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an advanced therapy technique developed in Europe by Dr. Emil and Estrid Vodder.  MLD is recognized as the number one therapy for treating and and maintaining primary and secondary lymphedema.
What is Lymphatic Drainage good for?
Helps treat acute and chronic edema (i.e., lymphedema, edemas following strokes, and local edemas from trauma such as fractures, dislocations and tears), neuromuscular disorders and fascial dysfunction, scleroderma, burns, acne, inflammation in the respiratory tract, migraine, circulatory disturbances, and digestive tract disorders, as well as, liposuction, tummy tuck and other body contouring surgeries.
What does Lymphatic Drainage Massage do?
Lymphatic drainage is a therapeutic massage treatment using light pressure and long simple strokes to increase lymph flow and reduced bodily toxins. Part of your body's immune system, the lymph system helps fight infection.
Below are some of the benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage:
  • Reduction in swelling
  • Beneficial in the rejuvenation of muscle tissue due to weight lifting, cycling, kick boxing, dancing, etc.
  • Detoxification of the body
  • Regeneration of tissue from burns and scars
  • Relief of chronic and sub-acute inflammation and conditions, such as sinusitis, eczema and allergies.
  • Decrease in symptoms of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
  • Relief of chronic pain
How many Pre/Post MLD sessions should I schedule?
MLD sessions range from 30-60 minutes. The recommended amount of treatments is (3) Pre-op sessions to clean the system of prior waste which slow down healing, followed by (3) Post-op sessions (Dr. note required), which speed up the recovery process.
How will I feel after my first few MLD Sessions?
While some people may not feel anything due to the subtleness of this technique, others may feel the following:
  •  Increased sweat
  •  Increased urination
  •  Minor soreness
  • Thirsty
  • Tiredness
  • Decrease in swelling/inflammation
  • Decrease in swollen lymph nodes
  • Less headaches
*Arrive at your appointment well hydrated (16oz water). Dehydration can impair your ability to detoxify and make you leave feeling ill.
